Moonhead

Switches & Barriers

Paired switch-and-barrier obstacles that control pathing. Every region solves the problem in its own material.

Throughout the world of Moonhead, physical pathways are blocked by barriers that clear only when a corresponding switch is worked. The pairing is constant; the material is never shared. Each region answers the same question out of whatever it is made of, and the answer is part of how that region introduces itself.

Regional Variations

  • The Dark Forest: not built at all, but grown. Knotwood is a single organism whose barrier and switch are parts of the same body, joined by an internal signal: press the pad, the snarl unclenches. It answers to weight rather than light, and its paired-node growths are the region's clearest lesson in the head and body split. This is the first gating Moonhead meets, and it teaches that the world here is alive before it teaches that the world here is locked.
  • Other Regions: each region has its own signature door and lever, skinned and reasoned from its own materials (rusted metal sluices in the industrial ruins, calcified shell gates in White Reef worked by pulling root-tendons).
